Classic+ Doesn’t Need a Higher Level Cap

The most predictable way to expand an MMORPG is also one of the most destructive.

Raise the level cap. Replace everyone’s equipment. Add a new continent. Start the progression treadmill again.

World of Warcraft has successfully followed that formula for decades.

Classic+ doesn’t need to.

Keeping level 60 as the cap would give Blizzard an opportunity to expand horizontally instead. New raids don’t necessarily need dramatically stronger equipment. New dungeons could provide alternative itemisation. Professions could gain rare recipes. Existing zones could receive new high-level areas.

Most importantly, the original world wouldn’t immediately become obsolete.

That’s one of the biggest differences between vanilla World of Warcraft and its expansion-driven future. Azeroth originally functioned as one enormous progression space. Players of wildly different levels occupied the same continents and repeatedly returned to old locations.

Classic+ could preserve that.

The goal shouldn’t necessarily be making our characters infinitely more powerful.

It should be making Azeroth bigger, stranger and more worth exploring.
